We are currently looking for an Assistant Field Program Manager, Outreach Program Assistant, and three Invasive Species Technicians.

Outreach Program Assistant
Duties and Working Conditions
The Outreach Program Assistant will assist the Education Program Coordinator with invasive species prevention programs through education and outreach activities. Job duties will include: hosting educational display booth at community events and public locations; leading community weed pull events and youth field trips, assisting with website updates, newsletters, press releases and social media posts, iNaturalist projects and communications; distributing invasive species educational resources and signage; creating original content for use in CKISS outreach activities; assisting with virtual and in-person events such as webinars, workshops, and presentations.
The position will include both office and field work, and requires extended and variable hours including weekend, holiday, and some evening work. The Outreach Program Assistant is expected to work outdoors in a wide variety of weather conditions. The position requires good physical fitness and the ability to complete physically demanding tasks including walking long distances, standing for long periods, and/or lifting up to 50 lbs. Extensive driving will be required; a vehicle will be supplied for all job-related travel.
Eligibility
- Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or have Refugee Status; and be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations. International students are not eligible.
- Valid Level 1 Occupational First Aid, or willing to obtain
- Valid B.C. driver’s license, with a Clean Driving record (3 year abstract and claims history required)
- Depending on funding for this position, the successful applicant(s) may also have to be:
- a current post-secondary student who is planning to return to classes in Fall
- between the ages of 15-30 years of age at the start of employment
Other Requirements
- Positive, energetic, flexible team player who is self-motivated and comfortable working unsupervised
- At least one year of post-secondary education in a related field (education, communications, environmental science or similar)
- Passion for, and preferably some knowledge of, environmental conservation and knowledge of invasive species
- Comfortable and confident with public speaking and public engagement; preference given to experience working with youth and/or community groups
- Excellent oral and written communication and social media skills
- Experience with social media content and website creation is an asset
- Successful completion of a criminal record check

Assistant Field Program Manager
Duties and Working Conditions
Reporting to the Field Program Manager and working closely with the current Assistant Field Program Manager, you will supervise and work with a small crew to carry out a variety of invasive species fieldwork activities during May through August. Fieldwork will include: surveys and manual removal of invasive plants in priority locations; sign installation and removal; seeding and/or planting; landowner outreach; biological control agent surveys and possible collection. After August, you will take over the Assistant Field Program Manager’s duties to cover for a leave of absence. Tasks will include supporting the Field Program Manager to monitor invasive plant treatments and other late season field work, manage and analyze data, prepare reports, and complete season wrap-up tasks.
During the field season, the Assistant Field Program Manager works extensively in the field with regular office days, generally working four, 9 hour days per week. From November through April the position is 100% office-based. The position requires good physical fitness and ability to complete physically demanding tasks including walking and driving long distances, lifting up to 50lb, and use of hand tools to remove invasive plants. The Assistant Field Program Manager is expected to work outdoors in a wide variety of weather conditions and potentially in and around water.
Eligibility

- Graduated from a relevant post-secondary program within the past 5 years (e.g. Biology, Ecology, Range Science, Rec Fish and Wildlife, Agriculture, or Natural Resource Management, etc)
- Must be under 31 years of age at the start of employment
- Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or have Refugee Status
- Valid Level 1 Occupational First Aid, or willing to obtain
- Valid B.C. driver’s license, with a Clean Driving record (3 year abstract and claims history required)
- Valid BC Pesticide Applicators Certificate, or willing to obtain
Other Requirements
- Experience collecting and managing spatial data using ArcGIS or related software
- Demonstrated experience supervising and leading a team, preferably in an outdoor field work situation
- Strong skills using Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel and Word
- Positive, energetic team player who is self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized
- Passion for, and preferably some knowledge of, environmental conservation and invasive species
- Able to identify a variety of native and non-native plant species
- Successful completion of a criminal record check
Employment Terms
- Number of positions: 1
- Term: 8 months with possibility to convert to a permanent role
- Start Date: April 1 – May 1 (to be decided based on availability of successful candidate)
- Hours: full time 32-36 hours per week
- Wage: $25/hour, eligible for extended health benefits after 3 months

Invasive Species Technicians

The Invasive Species Technician (IS Tech) works as part of a small field crew to carry out invasive species management including: surveys and manual removal of invasive plants in priority locations; sign installation and removal; landowner outreach; biological control agent surveys and possible collection. The IS Tech works primarily in the field with limited office time. Extensive driving will be required; a vehicle will be supplied for all job-related travel. The position requires good physical fitness and ability to complete physically demanding tasks including walking and driving long distances, lifting up to 50lb, use of hand tools to remove invasive plants, and potentially brushing and power tool operation. The IS Tech is expected to work outdoors in a wide variety of weather conditions and potentially in and around water.
