Join CKISS and the Kootenay Native Plant Society for a half day of native planting at the Kootenay Gallery in Castlegar.
We are partnering with the the Kootenay Native Plant Society in order to improve habitat for pollinators in our region. Pollinators are important because they are vital to ecosystem health and food security. Pollinators are also an important link in our food chain because they are a valuable food source for other animals.
Event Details:
When: Saturday October 23, 9:00am-1:00 pm
Where: Kootenay Gallery, 120 Heritage Way, Castlegar, BC.
What you will be doing: Planting a variety of native species to boost biodiversity at the site and improve pollinator habitat.
This multi year project began in 2020 when keen volunteers join forces to create habitat for bees and butterflies. The volunteers consulted with the Kootenay Native Plant Society on plant selection and seed collection. The site is now a registered Monarch Waystation, an area that can provide the resources for Monarch re-production and migration.
Thank you to the Fish and Wildlife Compensations Program Community Engagement Grant , the Kootenay Gallery and the Kootenay Native Plant Society for supporting this event.
