CKISS Launches EcoAction Project: Communities Protect Freshwater Together

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new EcoAction project: Communities Protect Freshwater Together – Riparian Restoration in the Kootenay Region! This three-year initiative, beginning in 2022, is designed to engage and inspire local communities to take action in protecting freshwater quality. Through the restoration of critical water bodies and riparian habitats, we are working together to make a lasting impact on three key sites in the Central Kootenay region of British Columbia.

Our goal is to restore and enhance freshwater ecosystems, improve habitat for at-risk species, and raise awareness about the importance of invasive species management. With the help of community groups, schools, and volunteers, we will be planting native species, removing invasive plants, and implementing best practices to protect these valuable ecosystems.

We are just getting started, and we can’t wait to share our progress with you! Here’s are the sites we started restoration work on this past fall: Jubilee Wetland in Rossland, Hunter Siding Wetland in Hills and the Harrop Wetland.

🌱 Get Involved! 🌱
This is just the beginning! Stay tuned for updates on our progress and upcoming volunteer opportunities in the spring and fall of 2023 and 2024. Whether you’re a student, a community member, or an environmental enthusiast, we invite you to join us in protecting freshwater ecosystems.

Together, we can make a difference!

Thank you to the Rossland Summit School, Friends of Kootenay Lake Stewardship Society and the Slocan Lake Stewardship Society for partnering with us on this project.
